Recently we visited Wales Air Ambulance to hand over a donated manikin, which was won in our Facebook competition.
The Wales Air Ambulance is a registered charity which was set up in 2001. It is one of the busiest air ambulance services in the UK and with 4 aircraft, it is the largest operations too. It responds to approximately 2000 missions a year and has completed more than 24,000 missions since its launch on St David’s Day 2001.
The service is wholly dependent on public donations and costs around £6.5 million per year. Ongoing training is vital to those working in the emergency services and therefore Ruth Lee Ltd were thrilled when one of the winners of their recent Facebook competition, Katie Witherington, decided to donate her prize to the Wales Air Ambulance. Katie selected a Multi Trauma manikin which allows teams to simulate rescue scenarios with a severely injured casualty. The manikin comes complete with detachable arm and leg, to simulate full or partial loss of limb, plus a cavity to simulate impalement! Katie chose to donate to the Air Ambulance as her brother-in-law works for the service.
Ruth Lee Ltd are specialist manufacturers of training manikins, used primarily by the emergency services to complete realistic rescue training. Operating from our base in Corwen for more than 30 years, we recently held a Facebook competition allowing 5 lucky winners to choose from a range of manikins. With an international customer base, we were thrilled when one of the winners opted to donate her prize to a very worth-while and very local cause.
Dr Mark Knight, a Consultant doctor with Wales Air Ambulance was delighted to receive the manikin and said:
“This donation will prove extremely useful for our scenario drills where we have to practice getting patients out of difficult situations, such as a wrecked car.
“This is a very generous gift and we are extremely grateful to Katie and Ruth Lee for donating it to the service. We shall certainly put it to good use.”
Paul McDonnell, Managing Director at Ruth Lee Ltd said,
“We are dedicated to helping professionals who save lives, by providing the best manikins for their training and so a Facebook competition was a good way of raising awareness of our range. We are very happy that one of our winners decided to donate her prize to Wales Air Ambulance and look forward to hearing all about the training exercises they complete in the coming months.”
