Airport and Airline Training – Which Manikins is best?

WHICH MANIKIN IS BEST FOR MY TRAINING SCENARIO?

THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION!

Airports are among the busiest public spaces in the world. Every day, millions of passengers pass through airports for both business and pleasure and with so many people in a relatively small space, it is vital that airport staff are adequately trained to cope with emergencies. Training manikins are an extremely useful tool allowing teams to create effective training for a range of scenarios.

We have a range of manikins which have been designed with specific training scenarios in mind and can offer expert advice on which manikin would best suit your needs.

Whether you need a manikin able to withstand high temperatures for a fuselage fire drill, a heavy-weight manikin for bariatric rescue training, CPR and Airway Management manikins, or even multiple manikins for a mass casualty scenario, we can help!

SCENARIO 1 – AIRCRAFT FIRE

THE SOLUTION: FIRE HOUSE MANIKIN

If you want to carry out emergency training with high temperatures and even real fire, the only manikin to consider is our Fire House Manikin.

The Fire House Manikins demonstrate a good balance between temperature and abrasion resistance and are predominately designed for BA snatch rescue training in fire houses and for ‘hot fire cell’ training.

This is the perfect manikin for using in a burning fuselage scenario.

The Fire House Manikins will easily withstand temperatures of around 160°C at floor level (400°C at the ceiling!) for a prolonged period of time – they will, of course, deteriorate if placed too close to naked flames or in excessive temperatures, just as any fire kit would.

SCENARIO 2: RESCUING AN OBESE PASSENGER

THE SOLUTION:  BARIATRIC MANIKINS

Obesity is a real problem in the UK and across the world. How would your staff cope with evacuating an obese passenger in an emergency?

Airbus in Broughton, UK used an 180kg  manikin for a multi-agency exercise and Nicole (as she was called) brought the exercise to a standstill! It took the combined teams 15 minutes to formulate a plan of how to remove her from the training fuselage, which demonstrates the need for teams to understand the difficulties of helping larger passengers.

Our Bariatric range currently includes manikins weighing in at 90, 180 and 260kg. Our 90kg manikin is perfect where you require the bulk of a bariatric, without too much excessive weight. We have also launched a Water-Fillable Bariatric Suit which allows you to turn any Ruth Lee Duty Range Manikin into a Bariatric! Click HERE for more information on this innoviative product.

SCENARIO 3: THERE HAS BEEN A TERRORIST ATTACK RESULTING IN A LARGE NUMBER OF CASUALTIES

THE SOLUTION: MASS CASUALTY MANIKIN

With so many people in a confined space, it is a sad fact that airports and airlines remain a target for terrorists.

How would your team cope in a situation where there were a large number of people injured? Our Mass Casualty Manikin is the cost effective choice.

They are lightweight (approx. 4Kg) and would be perfect for a large, multi-agency exercise where a large number of casualties/bodies are required to be seen but not necessarily rescued. These manikins come without overalls allowing you to dress them realistically for your training scenario.

SCENARIO 4: A PASSENGER FALLS ILL IN A BATHROOM AND NEEDS EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE DURING A FLIGHT

THE SOLUTION: FULL BODIED CPR MANIKINS

CPR training is most commonly carried out in a warm classroom on a CPR Torso. But is this a realistic representation of what your staff might face during a flight?

Our Full Bodied CPR Manikin allows you to create a much more realistic training scenario. They can be trapped under heavy objects, or placed in confined spaces, including bathrooms or cockpits.

We can provide the full kit, or the body minus the CPR Torso, meaning that if you already have one for your training, you can place this inside the carcass.

USING FIRE SIMULATION TO ADD EXTRA ‘OOMPH’ TO YOUR TRAINING!

Creating a training exercise which is memorable and effective can be tricky. One of the best ways to achieve this is through using fire simulation.

Ruth Lee can supply a range of Fire Simulation products which allow you to create very realistic training scenarios for your teams. From Smoke Machines, silk flames and burning smell aerosols, to explosion simulators and controlled fire machines. The only limit is your imagination in creating an engaging and realistic training exercise!
