“A well-trained team is a good efficient team in rescue situations”

The UK has a fantastic volunteer rescue community, run by a network of dedicated men and women who are willing to give up their free time, specialist skills and bravery to help others.

Often, these volunteer rescue teams could face treacherous conditions, up mountains, on marshlands, during flooding or on Britain’s many and varied waterways.

One such team, operating in Hertfordshire and the surrounding borders is Herts Boat Rescue Team. They provide life-saving water rescue support to the local community as well as flood rescue support to the framework operating across the UK.

With a network of around 30 unpaid volunteers, Herts Boat Rescue has been running over 20 years to support and protect the general public.

In addition to their rescue duties, the Herts Boat Rescue team run safety patrols on stretches of river within Hertfordshire, they provide water safety training and advice to the public and work closely with the Fire and Rescue Service to improve the counties resilience.

With a primary aim of preventing drownings locally and within the UK, the Herts Boat Rescue team also provide cadet training, which is training for their ‘future rescuers’.

All members of the team take part in regular water rescue training sessions and we are proud that the team choose to use Ruth Lee Ltd manikins to enhance their training scenarios.

Stuart Foreman, Chairman at Herts Boat Rescue said,

“A well-trained team is a good efficient team in rescue situations. Our manikin was funded locally by East Herts district council who gave us the funding for this specialised rescue equipment so our team can be highly trained when it comes to that real-life scenario.”
