It’s absolutely no secret that the world of training was turned on it’s head in 2020. Training to save lives suddenly became near impossible due to social distancing restrictions and the need to keep trainees and volunteers safe from COVID-19.
Beach lifeguard training was no exception to these restrictions, but after seeing a recommendation from Surf Life Saving Club GB the folks at Crantock Surf Life Saving Club turned to Ruth Lee manikins to provide a safe solution allowing them to continue training to save lives during the pandemic.
Now a year on from the height of the pandemic, the club are still using the manikins, including their Surf Rescue manikin to train their beach lifeguards twice a week.
Emmie Seward-Adams, Senior Training Officer at Crantock SLSC said:
“It’s been really popular with candidates and gives everyone an opportunity to practice whilst minimising risk of injury.”
“We wouldn’t have been able to continue training people without it and it’s given us the capacity to train more lifeguards whilst there was a shortage.”
