If you are looking for training inspiration for your own team, look no further than Market Drayton Fire Station – the team there go above and beyond to create interesting and relevant training scenarios, which help embed important skills.
We recently spotted these great photos from the Station and thought it was an excellent example of creating a hazmat drill.
On arrival at the scene, the Incident Commander was informed that there had been a spillage of an unknown chemical within a building, and that at least one person was unaccounted for. Two firefighters donned breathing apparatus and gauntlets to carry out a snatch rescue of the casualty, whilst the rest of the crew set up safety cordons and a decontamination area.
Once they rescued the casualty, crews wearing Gas Tight Chemical protection suits then dealt with the spill by using equipment from an Environment agency grab bag, which the Environment Agency provide to Fire and Rescue Services.
