Firefighter rescuing person on ladder at night.

Working at Height Manikin praised as ‘great training aid’

Rescues from height require great skill and quick thinking. If someone has fallen and is suspended mid-air in fall arrest equipment, time is of the essence in order to rescue them safely and therefore working at height training is frequently carried out by the fire service.

We recently received feedback on our Working at Height manikin from Kington Fire Station, who are part of Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service. Teams from this retained station were carrying out training at the Strategic Training Facility in Peterchurch.

The team set up a scenario where a firefighter (our Working at height manikin) had slipped and fallen whilst trying to climb through a high window, and was left suspended from their fall arrest equipment. The team were tasked with rescuing the manikin and lowering him safely to the ground.

Crew Commander Alan Dixon, said,

“The working at height manikin was a great training aid, it’s a good weight and is sturdy enough to act more like a real person in a harness … not just a floppy dummy!”
