Ruth Lee Ltd introduces the latest innovation for rescue training, RL360 – an exciting new mixed reality training tool which brings training, and manikins to life!
As a world-leading manufacturer of rescue training manikins, which has grown to be an established brand within the safety and rescue communities, we understand that innovation is important for any SME and it has certainly played a pivotal role in the success of our business! Whether through internal development or partnering with other expert organisations, we are dedicated to doing what needs to be done to ensure our products meet future training demands.
In 2022 Ruth Lee Ltd and Wrexham University secured funding from Innovate UK for a 2-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), allowing us to employ a software development engineer and embed the skills needed to adopt new technologies into the business. Now in 2024, at the Emergency Services Show, we were excited to introduce the latest innovation for rescue training, RL360 – an exciting new mixed-reality training tool which brings training, and manikins to life!
Combining the realistic manual handling aspect of using weighted manikins with cutting-edge mixed reality technology, RL360’s training platform brings realistic animation and humanised interaction to your training scenarios.
The first programme, Trauma Lens lets trainers teach 3 scenarios which are traditionally difficult to teach in a realistic way. This includes:
- Assessment of Head Injuries using the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS)
- Airway Auscultation
- Assessment of Traumatic bleed
But this is just the beginning! We aim to introduce new training scenarios to RL360 in the future and will actively seek customer feedback to identify gaps in current training capabilities to ensure it offers the very best in first-response training. This technology is potentially transformational for anyone involved in the first response for a casualty emergency, including paramedics, the police, fire service and other emergency rescue response units. The main benefit of this kind of technology is that it can be continually developed, giving trainees the most realistic experiences and enhancing learning for the very best outcomes.
Ryan Foley, Product Manager – XR Training Solutions at Ruth Lee Ltd said, “Working with Ruth Lee and Wrexham University to develop this software solution has been incredibly exciting, especially when end-users get to use the tech for the first time, and they see first-hand how a Ruth Lee manikin is brought to life in front of their eyes. The opportunities to develop interesting and challenging training scenarios is endless and I am sure that in years to come, we won’t be able to understand how first responders were able to train without this tech in the first place!”
John Clarke, Compliance Specialist Officer at Trauma Resus was one of the first people to experience RL360. He said, “Looking at the future and what this technology could do – it could be a game changer for training!”
